The Short Hills Park, a tremendous open field of eight acres, is home to many pick-up games of soccer and football for the local children and teenagers. Local soccer teams also use the park for practice during the Fall.
It’s a Hit Baseball Camp. From Bob Chandler, local resident and long-time baseball coach, It’s a Hit Baseball Camp is an annual summer baseball clinic where young, local baseball players have the opportunity to learn from the best. With Four Sessions spanning from June 27th to August 5th, Bob Chandler and his staff of college and high school Varsity baseball players tutor children ages 8 to 12 years old. The camp includes a free t-shirt, use of batting cage and batting machine, instruction on batting, bunting, base running, throwing, catching, position play, contests, prizes, and much more!
FlyWheel, a well-known fitness center in Manhattan that specializes in spinning classes, recently opened up a studio in Millburn, NJ. Located in downtown Millburn, this studio offers Flywheel indoor cycling rides and body sculpting FlyBarre classes. Flywheel is an experience that lasts 45 or 60 minutes and includes climbs and descents, while working arms with weighted bars.
Every year Millburn hosts a number of 5K runs that sponsor local and national charities. This past year the American Red Cross 5K Run/Walk for Life raised money for the Red Cross. Other notable charity events include Jake’s Ride, an annual bike race that raises money for Dystonia Research. The event is held in honor of a local child named Jake who is fighting the disease. Through Jake’s leadership and strength the event has raised over $700,000 dollars in the past 3 years.
The South Mountain Reservation:
Walking distance from the Millburn Public Library and Train station is the South Mountain Reservation, a 2,047 acre nature preserve that stretches across Essex County and Northern New Jersey. Within this vast nature preserve are nineteen miles of hiking and walking trails that are open to local residents and can be accessed from an entrance pathway at the foot of the hills across from the Millburn Train Station.
South Mountain Reservation also offers ten picnic areas and the Washington Rock Lookout Historic Site where local residents can enjoy panoramic views of New Jersey and New York City’s Skyline.
For those that love the outdoor activites, the Reservation encompasses tremendous fishing at Diamond Mill Pond, an archery range, and twenty seven miles of jogging, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
Lastly, the Reservation is home to the Turtle Back Zoo, a fantastic local zoo that your children will love, and the Richard J. Codey Arena, where two indoor ice skating rinks can be enjoyed.
The Christ Church Park:
Sitting directly in the center of Old Short Hills, Christ Church Park offers over two acres of manicured property that all local residents are allowed to enjoy throughout the year.
Two soccer goals are secured permanently on the property for soccer teams of all ages to use, as well as a baseball backstop and fence.
However, local residents use the property for any and all kinds of outdoor activities, including kite flying and pick up football.

Offers an Olympic sized pool, a baby pool, and diving board area. Snack bar area overlooks the pool area for family’s to enjoy lunch. Formal dining room is housed within the Club. Members also get to enjoy tennis courts, squash courts, and paddle tennis.

Canoe Brook Club

For those who are not interested in joining a private club, Millburn/Short Hills offers a robust set of public attractions, including a Town Pool with an Olympic sized swimming pool, a baby pool, three fantastic water slides, and a snack bar for family’s to enjoy lunch. Steps away from the pool are tennis courts, the Par-3 Golf Course, and Gero Park, home to 36 acres of land that include baseball fields, basketball courts, roller hockey, and playgrounds.
