If you love exposed brick and white truffle cheese ravioli as much as I do, you’ll love Basilico. After stepping through the glass doors that provide fabulous sunlight for lunchtime meals or a great view of downtown Millburn during dinner, you are greeted by a warm, welcoming staff. Walk past an elegant bar where you can enjoy a local New Jersey glass of red or white wine, and you will be seated in one of three areas–the main floor, the the upper level, or the garden terrace (don’t worry there are plenty of heat lamps for those of us who get a little chilly during dinner!). I started with the arancini di riso alla siciliana, a mouth-watering dish of fried Italian riceballs stuffed with peas, meat sauce, pecorino, and caciocavallo cheese! Don’t worry this dish is so good, it’ll make you forget that its fried. For an entree, the Ravioli di Pera e Caprino, arrives. Goat cheese and pear ravioli in a fresh thyme butter sauce. The ravioli literally melts in mouth, and most importantly, leaves enough room for dessert! If you only have 15 minutes to eat anything in Millburn, the desserts at Basilico will not disappoint. I won’t lie, my husband and I, often eat dinner at home and drive to Basilico just to eat dessert. Yes, it’s that good. We order the Budino, layers of chocolate pudding and graham crackers with whipped cream, and the Crostata di Banane, caramel banana crumb tart served with vanilla ice cream. Needless to say, both plates were licked clean!
